A Quick Personal Update

I have a quick prayer request. I, along with 11 co-workers, was let go from my job yesterday. While I’m trained in IT (computer geek), I’ve grown tired of the field and I’ve decided to use this opportunity to take a different path. If you feel led, please pray for wisdom for me and for God’s plan to unfold before me.

Thank you in advance,

Chris

  1. So sorry to hear that, Chris. I pray the Lord guides you to a fulfilling career that allows you to support your family in His Glory!

  2. I’m so sorry to hear. You, your family and Co-workers will be in my prayers. God bless you and thank you for what you do.

  3. I pray that a year from now you’ll look back and say, “Man I’m glad that happened!” That’s how it was for me when I was RIF’d a few years ago.
Hang in there. God has a plan for you.

    • Chris Ray says:

I know what you mean. The uncertainty bothers me more than anything, but as you mentioned, I know God has a plan for me.

  4. I will be praying for you and all who lost their jobs. God must have a plan for all of you. I know God will give you the wisdom to take the right path. Here is a scripture from Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” I hope all works out for you and have a great day.

May all of Gods blessings be with you and your family.

  5. prayers – God is STILL in charge of ALL……

  6. My prayer for you, Chris, is that God’s perfect plan/will may be accomplished and that His wisdom, peace and joy will continually reign in your life regardless of circumstances.

Wherever you are, you have a ministry and God is working through you day by day.

  7. Elizabeth J says:

Oh, man. Can you tell us what company, Chris? I just kind of like to know what’s going on in our business world, that’s all.

It will be interesting to learn what the next chapter in your Book of Life on Planet Earth will be!

    Prayerfully,

    • Chris Ray says:

I don’t mind, the name of the company is Virtual Radiologic, its the worlds largest teleradiology company. Basically when a hospital has a CT scan done, they can send it to Virtual and their radiologists will read it.

      • Elizabeth J says:

Don’t we just hate being moved out of our comfort zone? It’s going to happen to all of us, in time. Just think: you’ll be eons ahead of the rest when IHTF! (It Hits the Fan)!

  8. bruce smith says:

I’m not sure what you mean, but let me know and I’ll help if i can.

  11. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I have been in the same situation as you and can some what relate to what you and your former fellow co-workers are going through.

  13. Chris,
I am so sorry to hear that you lost your job yesterday. I will most definitely add you to my prayer list. On the up side, I want to thank you for running this sight and sharing with all of us insightful and faith oriented preparation articles. I look forward to getting your updates as much as I look forward to my daily devotionals. May the Lord bless you and keep you and your family!

  14. Michelle W. Flannery says:

Was just praying for you, and was told to remind you that ultimately, everything that happens is nestled in the perfect plan that God has for you. When we forego disappointment and fear/anxiety, and adopt a stance of faith, we can rest, relax, and trust that no matter what we see or do not see, God “has our back,” and will not fail to take us through this season (whatever it may be) into the next. The more we trust God, the stronger our faith grows. The stronger our faith grows, the more able we become to “do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” Blessings to you and your family! And as you bless others (you do every day with this blog) those blessings increase!

    • Chris Ray says:

You are absolutely correct. I went through some disappointment and frustration yesterday, but no real fear for the future. Thank you for the prayers.

  15. Chris,

Been there, done that. I am 65 yrs young, and have a lot of life experience. I have found that in every adversity, there is a seed for equal or greater opportunity. It is easy for us to get stuck in our comfort zone, and sometimes it takes a “nudge” from God to move us to a greater calling. Christians should never strive for an occupation (origin -to occupy), but to seek a vocation (origin – a calling).

Your occupation has been used for a purpose, and now He is leading you to your vocation–your calling… helping people get prepared. God is moving you to the next step in His plan for your life. It is true, as some have said, that when God closes one door, He opens another. I have found that the other door does not open immediately. That waiting time provides opportunity for meditation and spiritual growth.

Get ready, Chris, big things are in store for you. I pray the prayer of Jabez every morning… “Lord, bless me, and bless me indeed! Expand my territory. May You hand be with me in everything I do. And, keep the evil one away from me!”

May God richly bless you as you seek His will for your life.

    Steve

    • Chris Ray says:

Great insight, thank you Steve. I tend to get antsy , so I’ll need to remind myself about what the waiting time is for.

  16. Tricia Frank says:

Well, looks like something great is going to open up in your life now. With all the giving you do it will come back to you.
I don’t know if you are connected with Jack Spirko at The survival podcast but I think you may find something there for you. Aside from a great wealth in information he has just recently started up a connection thing between the states for people who want to leave “unfriendly states” and move to more friendly states and people are connecting through that. There may be something there for you. God Bless you and your family in your new path.

    • Chris Ray says:

Thanks for the prayer. I have listed to Jack for a few years, well not so much the last six months, but hey, it looks like i have plenty of free time now, so maybe I can catch up lol.

  17. May the Lord rest upon you heart and hold you and your family fast to His plan. The Lord is at work in ways that I pray your eyes are open to how the path is being straightened and narrowed for you. Lord God give support, care, and protection to Chris and has family.
    In Jesus’s name… Amen.

  18. Chris…. You, your family and your co-workers are in my prayers. God’s path for us through life isn’t always straight and level, but it is always the best path. It will without doubt lead us to our fullest potential in all aspects of life. Keep the faith. Stay in prayer. And when that next phase of life reveals its self….be ready to receive the blessings with open arms.

Oh, and thanks for all you do….
    Ed

  19. I will be praying. You are a blessing to your readers and God will bless you as you diligently seek His will for your life.

  20. Kat Randall says:

Will certainly be praying for you and all those others that lost their jobs. As for you, I believe that God has something bigger and better for you.

  21. Phil Hovatter says:

Chris… Praying for you. This blog is your ministry. It could now become your full-time calling. It has had a part in prompting my wife and I to start a preparedness blog of our own. We are far from experts (actually, we’re stone cold noobs in every aspect of prepping), but we feel a need to help get the word out, like you have done. It will be a pleasure to be co-laborers with you.

Be bold. Be strong. The Lord your God is with you.

    • Chris Ray says:

I have a few things planned for the blog, we’ll see what happens. I’m grateful to God for having the chance to help others such as you and your wife to prepare. Good luck with the blog, if you’re unfamiliar with blogging, it can be a lot to learn, let me know if want ant pointers.

I’m also far from an expert, I am just to the point now that I know how much I don’t know. I think the idea of sharing with your audience as you learn sounds great.

Thanks again for the prayer and kind words.

  22. Yes, I pray for you Chris and your co-workers. May God open the right door for you as you continue in faith and service for Him.

  23. Prayers for you Chris and co-workers…we have been in that situation several times and while it certainly can seem quite devastating at the time, we have always ended up better off. It’s a real test of faith because we can’t always see His plan for us. I’m confident He has an even better path for you since you are very kind, generous and giving of your time to help others and I’m sure that will come back to you. God Bless you, your family and your co-workers.

  24. Chris its ok have FAITH and TRUST in the Lord He will direct your path I know this for a surety For 45 years I was a committed hairdresser owned 3 salons each salon did exceedlinly well. Then I experienced one of God’s ‘suddenly’s’ God had another path for me to follow I went to nursning school and got my degree I prayed “God YOU show me what to do with this education I know YOU will put me where YOU want me I know YOU hear me and I praise You and thank You” Today I am personal Staff for two of the most wonderful clients who are mentally handicapped and physically disabled I love them so and I get to MINISTER the Word to them … smile They are loving it no one has told them the Truth of the Word Doing this has truly fulfilled and enriched my life so be greatly encouraged Chris God moves His people and places them where HE wants them to be. I am praying for you to follow His leading He has an awesome place for you be blessed today!

  25. Praying that the Lord will take this trial and turn it into a rich blessing. Stay strong. Praying until something happens. Be blessed.

  26. Look at all the people that are praying for you! You are clearly blessed. May God continue to bless you and guide you on this new path.

  27. Chris, if you change your mind about staying in IT, my company is hiring folks to work remotely. The company is a 100% virtual company operating several SaaS apps.

Send me an email if you want to chat about it.

    • Chris Ray says:

      Hi Rudy,

Thanks for the offer, I will send you an email for more info. Very nice of you to bring it up.

      Chris

  28. Dear Chris, sorry to hear about your job. I too have been unemployed for a long time. I went back to school to be an I T. I want to let you know that God has provided for my family every step of the way. He will do the same for your family. I pray for your families well being and safety, that the lord will give you the strength and wisdom to know his will. You have been very comforting to me over the last year or so. thank you. Until I saw this website I thought that I was losing it, wanting to prep, I thought that now losing my job was not the ideal time to prep, but the lord showed me that it was. I happened upon this website about that same time. Everything happens for a reason. if you need anything let me know. God bless you and your family

    • Chris Ray says:

Thanks for the testimony James, I know God is faithful, but I like to hear how He has blessed others. I’m glad God used me to give you some comfort and peace about prepping.

I pray we both find the job that He has waiting for us.

  29. Wisdom and strength are the two things I pray for the most. Therefore, I have a lot of experience in this field! lol…..not laughing out loud about prayer, as God knows, but at how much I feel compelled to pray for these things. And as you know by now, if I can’t laugh at myself or my situation, I’m a lost cause.
I am so sincerely sorry for the loss of your job, and for the other 11 employee/friends. Losing ones gainfully employed job, can put a real strain on the expense of living! Thus, we must first give thanks to the Lord for the wisdom he has already bestowed upon you….which you so freely share with others….the wisdom of preparedness!, which will be of utmost help, while you wait for that next “door”. I, like you, tend to get “antsy”. Hard job, waiting. Especially in this day and age of instantaneous technology. I find myself very impatient with my microwave, as it isn’t keeping up with the new technology…..I don’t want to wait 2 minutes when 2 seconds would be so much better! And all this from someone learning to mill, knead, wait to raise a loaf of bread, and test “baking” it on charcoal. One who tests what it will be like doing laundry in a bucket, with this thing that looks like a plunger. Having “test” night once a month…no tv, lighting from a gas lantern, and flashlights, all for the “what if” event of long term power outage! I am so grateful for my sense of humor. Keeps me quite entertained, thank you Lord!
Well, I certainly got off the subject at hand. Please know, that with all the experience I have with “wisdom and strength” praying, I will be aiming it at you, and your 11 co-workers. While you wait, keep in mind how much wisdom the Lord already bestows on you, and if He does it now, it can only get better with all the prayers from so many wonderful people who think the world of you and your family! As my dad always said…keep a stiff upper chin! I think he said that because a double chin tends to run in the family. If the chin is up and stiff, that double part doesn’t show as much! Love and laughter to you and yours, Nancy

    • Chris Ray says:

      Thanks Nancy.

I I’m with you on laughter, it has seen me through some of the harder times in my life.

  30. Margaret Kiemele says:

    Oh my Chris

That was a shock for you , your family and all the other affected. So very sorry!
It is wonderful to see the response and the replies on here – and for sure there is just a growing sense of community and belief – especially that with God ALL things are possible.
My husband and I enjoy Joyce Meyer, and today her teaching was in the power of God’s Word. Jeremiah 1:12 – says that He watches over His word to perform it.
I pray that you will seek out those verses that minister to your situation, let them come out of your own mouth in prayer – and just watch Our Father – do Eph.3:2
“exceedingly above all that you can ask or think.
He will put you in the right palce at the right time, grant You His favour and give Divine appointments and Divine connections.
I never cease to be amazed that in all of history, we were chosen to live for “such a time as this.”
As others have written, you will look back at this as the best opportunity to move into a glorious new position and adventure, built on faith, trust and preparedness in spirit, soul and body.
Thank you for your dedication to rally us and now we rally together behind you to lift you and your family and friends up in prayer, waitig to hear back a “good report” because our God is faithful – Amen – and He will never see His righteous forsaken nor their children begging for bread! Amen

    • Chris Ray says:

      Good stuff, thank you Margaret.

I am bless by the community here. I look forward to give a positive report.

  31. Paul Eveland says:

    Chris,
I have enjoyed reading your posts for sometime now and wish you and your family all the luck in the world. Being a believer, by luck I mean blessings from our Lord and Savior. It’s interesting how life seems to work out. I’m a public school teacher (I consider teaching my full time ministry job) and recently left California due to job loss. Your article “Vote With Your Feet” reminded me of my family’s recent migration east (we landed in Tennessee). California has been heading down a path of destruction for as long as I can remember. My wife and I decided we needed to leave not only to find stable work (for the last 4-5 years more than 60,000 teachers have lost their jobs due to budget cuts) but also for our children. The culture of Tennessee fits my own personal beliefs much better that where we were. We have struggled during the move but the Lord is faithful. I have a stable job and enjoy the church we now attend. Give praise and thanks throughout these trying times brother. Take this testimony and do what you want with it. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

    • Chris Ray says:

      Hi Paul,

Thank you for the prayers and testimony, I love to hear how God has moved in peoples lives. I’m glad to hear you were able to move and find work in Tennessee, that happens to be one of the states we have considered moving to.

The Lord has blessed me with peace, I’m not worried at all.

  32. Chris, first of all I am late reading this email, sorry about that. I will add you and your family to our prayer list for sure. We will be in prayer for your direction. Chris didn’t you say that your family wanted to move? Maybe this is GOD’s way of opening up a path for you. Yes, it would be hard to move away but with your experience in the medical field that should open many doors for you. Maybe not in the same field but similar. Texas has some wonderful places that you would fit right in with. Just a thought. God Bless you and your family and know that HE is always in control, no matter what.

    • Chris Ray says:

Thanks Suni, I appreciate the prayers. The thought has occurred to me a few times that I’m not tied to the same restrictions in terms of needing such a high bandwidth Internet connection.

I’m not sure how we would get financing now, but may be able to once I find another job and have been there a while.
